The Atlanta Golden Knights were founded in 1923, as part of the re-constituted League run by Marshall Cooper and Tobias Walker. The Golden Knights lasted until 1942, when The League contracted due to a large number of its players serving in World War II. It is unknown if the Golden Knights were folded outright, or if they were relocated as a now-existing franchise. It would be over eighty years til football would return to Atlanta in the form of the Atlanta 404.
